Put out each weekday by NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md. If there’s one thing NASA does well, it’s collect great photographs. Whether it’s a neat lunarscape from the Apollo archives or the latest shot of a hurricane taken by the astronauts on the space station, APOD not only shows the photo but explains what it is you’re seeing. The APOD archive contains the largest collection of annotated astronomical images on the Internet, and a click gets you a high-resolution version of the photo too. Fantastic, educational, awe-inspiring, and thought-provoking. What more could an intelligent person want?
APOD is also part of the NASA App for Android, iPhones and iPads.
