Newspapers are run by humans on tight deadlines, so naturally mistakes occur. Responsible newspapers run corrections, and the cliche is that they "regret the error". Regret the Error chronicles these corrections, which are sometimes hysterically funny, but also serves an even more important function: it lets newspaper editors and publishers know that these things matter, that someone is watching, and that we expect them to 'fess up when they make a mistake.
