Only valuable for those in the U.S. and Canada, GasBuddy is "the ultimate portal to local real-time gas price information." That's gas as in gasoline, which has been cranking up in price lately, and it's a place where site members post current prices for gas at specific stations so you know where the best prices are near you. "Near" is relative: More people = more members = more information in more urban areas, but even some small towns have listings. (Europeans especially should avoid this site: you'll weep in your Weetabix when you find out how cheap gas still is here. Remember, the U.S. prices you see are per gallon, not per liter...!)

Illuminating a little-known but extremely significant period in world history—the discovery of oil in the Middle East and the beginnings of what is now the Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Saudi Aramco)—this captivating history explores the birth of the Middle Eastern oil industry. From the king and his royal court to the desert guides, scientists, and mechanics who built the original oil company, Aramco, the distant and desperately poor world of Depression-era Saudi Arabia is vividly brought to life. Written more than 50 years ago, this detailed account serves as a kind of time capsule and features the author’s prescient insights into the cultural and technological consequences of King Ibn Saud’s deliberate decision to choose America as his commercial ally.

By: Ida M. Tarbell

Amazon Price: $11.16
Editorial Review:
This muckraking classic, which eventually led to regulation of the Standard Oil Company, was the inaugural work for crusading journalists whose mission was to expose corruption and abuse during the early 20th century. The history combined descriptions of John D. Rockefeller's business practices with his personal characteristics, creating an image of a cunning and ruthless person.

Introduction to Oil Company Financial Analysis
By: David JohnstonDaniel Johnston
List Price: $79.00
Amazon Price: $63.20
Editorial Review:
Basic principles are widely understood in the financial industry, but the terminology and analytical techniques can vary greatly. This book is written for the nonfinancial shareholders, managers, and oil company employees interested in the forces that influence stock values. The bottom line in any company is expressed in the language of finance. This book explains financial concepts in a nontechnical, practical way so that nonfinancial professionals and others may understand and appreciate this aspect of the business. When the first edition of this book was written, companies disclosed substantially less information than what is available today. This additional information allows a better understanding of the financial status and health of a company. But there is still room for improvement.
